A new chapter for lucid cats: finding our way back to what inspired us

If you’ve recently discovered Lucid Cats, welcome! And if you’ve been following us since the beginning, we’re so glad you’re still here.

We’ve been making some changes behind the scenes, and before we share all the new things we’re working on, we thought we’d take a moment to tell you why.

Lucid Cats began in 2024 with a simple idea: create things that bring a little more joy into everyday life.

But a few months after starting the business, our family had an unexpected opportunity to take a road trip across country with our dogs. Naturally, we packed them up and off we went!

That trip ended up changing the way we thought about Lucid Cats.

Finding inspiration along the way

As we traveled from place to place, we noticed something we hadn’t really thought about before.

The little shops in each town often seemed to tell the story of those locations and the people that called it home.

A shop near the coast might be filled with salt water taffy, collectible sea shells and sunset postcards. A mountain town might have souvenirs created from local trees, pre-packaged trail mix and stainless steel tumblers featuring a well-known mountain peak. Other places had their own color schemes, characters and little details that made you feel a sense of what the community was about.

We loved that and we loved the people we met along the way.

Those products weren’t simply things to buy. They were little reminders of a place, a moment and an experience. Reminders of those special places with incredible people creating beautiful communities to be discovered.

And somewhere along the way, we started wondering:

What would the Lucid Cats landscape look like?

We didn’t want it to be limited to one type of product. We wanted it to feel like a little world of its own.

A world inspired by our animals, our adventures, the places we love and the things that make us curious.

So when we returned home, we decided to pause and rethink where we wanted Lucid Cats to go.

Back to the heart of Lucid Cats

At the center of everything has always been our pets.

We believe pets make us better people

They have a way of reminding us to slow down, to enjoy the sun shining on our face, to take more walks, to laugh every day and find joy in things that might otherwise go unnoticed.

They become part of our routines, our homes and our stories.

That’s why animals will always be at the heart of Lucid Cats.

But we’re also animal lovers in a much bigger sense.

We love the people who collect little creatures simply because they make them smile. We love the person who buys a gift because it reminds them of their best friend’s dog. We love the person who has a favorite cat on their desk while they work. We love the pet-companion traveler who brings home a small reminder of a place they visited.

And we love the curious people who see something a little strange and wonderful and think, “I need that”.

A little Florida sunshine

Today, we call Florida home, and that naturally finds its way into our inspiration.

Living here means we’re surrounded by sunshine (Hello 365 days of sunshine!), wildlife, beaches, cool springs, palm trees, unexpected creatures (Did you know we have monkeys?) and plenty of opportunities to get outside and explore.

We don’t want Lucid Cats to feel like a traditional Florida souvenir shop. Instead, we want Florida to be part of our personality.

Think sunshine, wildlife, warm colors, little adventures and that feeling you get when you discover something beautiful when you weren’t even looking for it.

And because we still love to travel, our adventures won’t stop at the Florida state line.

Sometimes inspiration comes from a road trip. Sometimes it comes from a walk around the neighborhood. Sometimes it’s a funny-looking bird (I’m talking about you, sand hill cranes!), a favorite coffee shop, a new walking trail or one of our pets doing something ridiculous.

You never really know where the next idea will come from.

And yes…there will still be a few surprises

If you’ve been around Lucid Cats for a while, you may know that we have a soft spot for things that are a little unusal.

Aliens. Bigfoot. Mothman and all those other strange little creatures.

We’re not planning to let those disappear.

But rather than making them the focus of Lucid Cats, we’d rather let them pop up here and there like little surprises. Not unlike a blurry sighting of Bigfoot himself!

After all, what’s an adventure without discovering something unexpected?

Creating a little world of our own

One of the most exciting parts of this new chapter is figuring out how all of these ideas can live together.

Some of our products will be designed by us. Some will be created on our 3D printers. Some will come from talented independent designers we admire. Some may be soft and cozy, some colorful and playful and some just a little bit weird.

But we want them all to have something in common:

They should make you feel something.

Maybe they remind you of your dog.

Maybe they bring back a favorite adventure.

Maybe they make the perfect gift for someone who loves animals as much as you do.

Or maybe you simply see something that makes you smile.

That’s what we’re hoping to create.

A little place on the internet filled with things for pet families, animal lovers, creature collectors and curious souls.

So what’s next?

We’re building the Lucid Cats shop with this new vision in mind, and we’re excited to take you along with us.

You’ll see more animals, more Florida inspiration, more travel and adventure, more original creations and plenty of little surprises along the way.

We’ll also be sharing more of what happens behind the scenes—from our creative process and 3d printing adventures to our travels, our favorite discoveries and, of course, whatever our VIPs are getting into.

Because Lucid Cats has always been about more than the things we sell.

It’s about the things that make life a little brighter. The things that make life a little kinder.

And we’re excited to find them with you.
